Project management

Project description

The automatically irrigated solar green roof with a rainwater collection and distribution system is intended to execute the solar turbo sustainable. In addition to energy production, the irrigated green roof generates a cooling capacity to counteract the urban heat island effect, increase the output of the PV and cool the top floor. In addition, biodiversity is promoted by creating valuable habitats for flora and fauna. This system can retain up to 70% of rainwater, so the building's surroundings are better protected from the consequences of heavy rain events (flooding) and valuable rainwater is not mixed with domestic wastewater, only to be expensively treated in the wastewater treatment plant and lost to the sea via rivers.

Status/Results

Phase 1: Detailed planning & preparation
Planning of the basic construction with the manufacturer of the bike rack, PV design and simulation in Polysun, excavation for rainwater tank, construction of the foundation, detailed planning of the monitoring and operating system, material selection and material orders.

Phase 2: Realization
Installation of the tank, preparation of the connection line for the grid feed, installation of the customized construction (bicycle rack) by the manufacturer. Installation of the green roof with elevation and subsequent installation of the photovoltaic system,
Creating and testing the monitoring and operating system (Arduino): Assemble, program, test and commission operating and monitoring systems.

Phase 3: Data acquisition, evaluation, and documentation
The data is collected, analyzed, illustrated, and documented monthly. A functional description is created for the operation of the system and the various system components. At the end of the project, final documentation, and project handover to the ZHAW or preparation of the application for project continuation.

Phase 4: Completion of the master’s thesis - smooth transition from start-up to spin-off
The aim is to earn an income from my own company after completing my Master thesis, and efforts are already underway to set up the company «ESC4ALL».
