Project description
Our time is dominated by the digital world and its most common interface, the screen. However, digital interactions lack depth, as they are only engaging on a visual (and if we’re lucky, an auditory) level. As the human sense of touch is remarkably sensitive, not utilizing it drastically limits our capabilities of interacting with digital applications, especially expressive ones like electronic music production.
Waviic is our answer to these issues - a haptic interface with knobs and sliders that are aware of the digital context they’re in. Both aspects - haptics and contextual awareness - are equally important to make digital experiences more intuitive. Every part of Waviics interface can be configured by the user to feel in a way that meets their needs. This is made possible using the Haptic Editor Software. The interface can be used with any application that supports the MIDI protocol common to many creative industries.
Waviic has the potential of transforming the way electronic music is created; by being played more like a traditional instrument on stage, by providing another dimension for exploration during the creative process, or simply by being more intuitive. Our goal is to bring physical devices back into our lives and make them adaptable and vibrant.
Status/Results
Our main objective during this phase of the project is to extend our team's entrepreneurial capabilities alongside an in-depth market analysis, verification of our vision’s potential and the subsequent development of a suitable business model.
To achieve this, we are also preparing for an extensive set of usability tests as part of our collaboration with the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology. This will enable us to further define our product, as well as our user’s needs.
Our final goal for this phase is to design a cohesive, appealing brand-identity in preparation for the following launch of our web presence.
