Project description
Polishing metals is a crucial process with many advantages in various industries. Due to the limitations of mechanical polishing methods, the most common alternative is electrochemical polishing. But this requires harmful chemicals, posing a risk to workers and the environment. Therefore, we want to offer a machine that utilizes plasma electrolytic polishing with a jet (PEP-Jet) to provide an environmentally friendly and non-toxic solution. Using an electrolyte jet, we achieve different polishing finishings on the same workpiece and polish only the necessary areas, thus saving energy and time. With PEP-Jet, we achieve even lower surface roughness in less time than electrochemical polishing. Our PEP-Jet machine is fully customizable with add-ons such as a robot or a PEP bath to fit the customer’s requirements best.
Status/Results
Within the scope of an Innosuisse project, we developed the PEP-Jet technology and built a fully working prototype. Our experience allowed us to optimize the polishing and automate the process. Together with First Ventures, we aim to develop an industrial machine for PEP-Jet polishing. The polishing machine offers a broad application across various industries. As a first step, we want to build a Minimum Viable Product to test the functionalities and allow for potential improvements to the machine - enabling us to offer polishing as a service for customer acquisition and collecting their feedback.
