Description du projet
The Euro crisis, the economic crisis and the ensuing crisis discourses provide the vantage point for this lecture series. In the last five years, Europe has undergone several crises: the economic and banking crisis became a euro crisis, which in turn created a crisis of the EU system and the entire Eurozone. Historically, the European crisis can be considered in the context of a host of other crises, such as the collapse of the Soviet Union or 9/11. In the terms of political science the European crisis is not only an economic crisis, but a crisis of politics, representation and democracy (Ulrich Beck). Additionally, political crises within individual EU states have developed into long-term crises (e. g. Greece, Bulgaria, Portugal etc.). But public protests have triggered crises in non-democratic countries too; authoritarian regimes such as Russia or China are among the states currently negotiating crises.
Using the present situation as a point of departure, this lecture series combines historical approaches and aspects of political science to develop a broader perspective on crises.
Quelles sont les particularités de ce projet?
The lecture series fits into the ASCN programme as it aims to promote competencies on Eastern Europe in Switzerland. Indeed, a large number of contributions will deal with Eastern European countries (Georgia, Russia, Bulgaria, Poland, etc.). The 13 preselected speakers are researchers of excellence, originating for a large part from the East, who are very well known in their respective field. Fourteen lectures (including one introductory lecture by the organisers) are planned, starting on 17 February 2014 and ending on 26 May. 2014. The lecture series is meant for the general public and should thus attract a large audience. Prof. Nicolas Hayoz and Prof. Siegfried Weichlein are responsible for this lecture series.
